BEEF WITH HONEY & BLACK PEPPER RECIPE
It's Chinese New Year this Friday 12th February, why not celebrate with a traditional chinese and tuck into our delicious Beef with Honey & Black Pepper and Egg Fried Rice recipe.
2.5 tbsp soy sauce
3 tbsp honey
1.5 tbsp oyster sauce
1.5 tbsp Chinese cooking wine (mirin)
2 tbsp water
1 tbsp crushed peppercorns
2 tbsp peanut oil
1 clove of garlic, crushed
2 peppers, sliced
½ bunch spring onions, sliced
200g shiitake mushrooms, sliced
500g sliced beef (try and use a tender cut, fillet or sirloin is the best)
Mix the sauce ingredients together in a bowl.
Heat the oil in a wok over high heat until it is smoking. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute. Keep it moving so the garlic doesn't burn.
Add the mushrooms and peppers and stir fry for two minutes. Add the beef and stir fry for 1 minute, until cooked to your liking. Remove to a bowl.
Turn the heat down to medium high, pour in the sauce - it will start simmering very quickly. Let it cook for 1 minute or so until it becomes syrupy - the bubbles will be larger and caramel color.
Add the beef and onion back into the wok, along with any juices. Toss it in the sauce until warmed through - 1 minute at most. Don't overcook the beef.
EGG FRIED RICE
400g cooked long grain rice
2 eggs whisked
6 chopped spring onions
2 tbsp veg oil
Heat the oil in a wok until its very hot and smoking.
Add the egg mixture and stir constantly, breaking the egg up as it cooks, add the rice and stir fry until piping hot.
Add the spring onions and serve with your Beef with Honey & Black Pepper.
