Cocktail Recipes to Celebrate the Summer Olympics

As we can't be in Tokyo for the 2020 Olympic Games, there are still plenty of ways to cheer on your favourite teams at home. Namely, with a cocktail that is infused with the spirit of the best countries competing from across the globe.

JAPAN - Japanese Sour

Ingredients:

45ml Yamazaki 12 year whiskey or similar
20ml yuzu juice
20ml honey syrup
2 dashes lavender bitters
1 egg white

Method:

Add all ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Dry shake (without ice) for 5 seconds. Add ice and shake again.

Fine strain into a chilled Cocktail Glass. Garnish with a few petals.

CHINA - 5 Spice Gimlet

Ingredients:

45 ml vodka
20 ml Chinese 5 spice syrup
20 ml fresh squeezed lime juice
1 tsp soy sauce

Method:

Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake.

Strain into a chilled Cocktail Glass. Garnish with a star anise pod on top.

USA - New York Sour

Ingredients:

60 ml rye whiskey or bourbon
20 ml fresh squeezed lemon juice
20 ml simple syrup
45 ml red wine, to float on top

Method:

Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker, except the wine. Add ice and shake.

Strain into a tall tumbler glass filled with fresh ice. Float (pour slowly over back of spoon) red wine on top of drink. Garnish with lemon wedge.

RUSSIA - Beat Down

Ingredients:

45 ml Stolichnaya vodka
20 ml fresh pressed beetroot juice
15 ml fresh squeezed lemon juice
15 ml cinnamon syrup
60 ml Fever Tree bitter lemon soda

Method:

Mix all ingredients, except the soda, in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake.

Strain into a tall tumbler glass filled with ice. Top with soda. Garnish with a cinnamon stick.

AUSTRALIA - Cold Irish Coffee

Ingredients:

25 ml Irish whiskey
30 ml brown sugar syrup
120 ml Costa Rican or similar cold coffee
50 ml double cream

Method:

Combine Irish whiskey, sugar syrup and coffee in a glass, stir gently to combine, then add the cream on top as layer using the back of a teaspoon to let it sit gently.

GREAT BRITAIN - Prince of Wales

Ingredients:

45 ml rye whiskey
7.5 ml fresh pineapple juice
2 dashes maraschino liqueur
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1 tsp. Icing sugar
45 ml sparkling wine

Method:

Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and rock back and forth in the shaker.

Strain into a Cocktail Glass. Garnish with a twist of lemon.

ITALY - Americano

Ingredients:

30 ml sweet vermouth
30 ml Campari
Club soda

Method:

In an ice-filled whiskey tumbler, add all ingredients in order listed.

Top off with ice. Garnish with 1/2 moon orange slice.

CANADA - Hotel Georgia

Ingredients:

60 ml gin
30 ml almond syrup
15 ml fresh squeezed lemon juice
10 drops orange blossom Water
1 egg white

Method:

In a cocktail shaker, add all ingredients and dry shake (without ice) for 5 seconds.

Add ice and shake again. Fine strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with fresh grated nutmeg.
